Today, as I was doing my usual rounds, I learned that Facebook was named in 20% of divorces filed in the United States. The data was provided by the online research group Divorce-Online which is ran by Mark Keenan. He searched the keyword “Facebook” out of 5,000 total divorces and found 989 occurrences.

I had the same problem with a social networking site back in high school. My girlfriend broke up with me due to Friendster. Since she knew my password, she logged in and found out I was sending personal messages to chick I barely know. Eventually, she broke up with me. Can you guess how? She broke up with me through an email she sent using YahooMail! I felt sad because of the breakup but it was funny how the Internet played a big part of that breakup. I was stupid back then, less stupid now. ^_^

It’s not really the Internet or Facebook or any other Online Social community, it’s stupid people doing stupid things on these sites. Social networking sites are just the doorways for wives/girlfriends to reconnect with old friends and past lovers. Now it is left to you, to decide if you will opt to do stupid things. As the internet evolves you will see many more social trending but hopefully with less negative connotation as this one.

The Internet is great, really great! I spend most of time in the Internet and my life revolves around it. However, we have to admit that the internet holds powers we are just now starting to un-cover and we are stupid if we don’t recognize that we are in the face of a discovery, always have been.

Online social networking pioneer Friendster is sold and has accepted a buyout from Malaysia-based MOL Global and it is reported that the site would shift into e-commerce. Friendster, which made its debut in 2002, once was pictured to be the best that happened in the world wide web before its popularity was challenged by the emergence of mighty competitors like Myspace and now Facebook. Its users are now mostly in Asia.

With over 75 million registered users, Friendster said 90 percent of its daily traffic comes from Asia, while MOL has over 500,000 physical and virtual channels in 75 countries to collect payment for content and services.

Under the new deal, the California-based Friendster will be fully acquired by MOL Global, an affiliate of online payment firm MOL Access Portal which is controlled by Malaysian tycoon Vincent Tan, they said in a statement.

Friendster chief executive Richard Kimber said that the new combined entity gives Friendster the kind of financial backing, retail distribution, and e-commerce infrastructure that will enable us to accelerate our strategy

Would this be goodbye to the Friendster Online social networking community site that we know and hello to another innovation?

Friendster, the once was pictured to be the best that happened in the world wide web but turned out the be the biggest failure in the world wide web, just made a major overhaul on it’s design. Friendster now has an eye-candy look with a Facebook-like-friend-update stream, that Myspace has also copied. With the revamp, I can say that Friendster made a better “look improvement” than Myspace. All that Myspace did was add the stream and change a couple of things but what Friendster did is change the major layout, login screen, and even to the extent of changing their logo. The new Friendster looks Facebook-like but with a twist!

Here is a screenshot of my Friendster page: (click for a larger view)

One thing to note though, Friendster did make changes to the layout but the loading time of the site stayed the same, it’s slow. Also, if Friendster does not find a way to solve their “SPAM” problem, then they will just be better off not changing their theme. For now, let’s see if Friendster’s new look and design will help them regain some traffic that they lost. ^_^
